The work we did in Providencia, Dota of Costa Rica was truly eye opening and humbling. I was able to push my body physically and mentally to the limit in work that was very beneficial to the community of Providencia. I was very glad for that experience and I’m sure that all the delegates learned a few new skills that we never knew we had before arriving in Costa Rica. With this being said, on our final full day in Costa Rica, we spent the entire day exploring city streets in the city San Jose. Looking at the local markets, souvenir shops, food stands and city landmarks. We toured two San Jose museums, the Pre-Colombian Gold and the Museo del Jade. To say it was enriching to learn about the history of Costa Rica in our final days of this program after participating in the work we did in Providencia would be an understatement.
I was happy to learn about Costa Rica, while at the same time taking part in the culture and everyday life of those who live in Costa Rica. I don’t travel outside of the United States that much, however, I always find it aweing to learn how other communities of people live all across the world. Also to finish off the day, we had more of the delicious cuisine of Costa Rica, I believe that I will be adding fried plantains to my diet now.
